How long does Partner Visa take? My Experience.

I moved to Australia in 2013 when I married my wife who is an Australian citizen. However, I had no choice but to come here on a 3 months Tourist Visa. Partner Visa application to Australian whether offshore or onshore is a lengthy and complicated process *. It took me almost 2 years to get my provisional partner visa. I had applied in late 2012 and was granted in mid 2014. This was after I threatened to go to Commonwealth Ombudsmen and file a formal complaint. We got married in Canada in 2013 and had already applied for Prospect Marriage Visa (Subclass 300). We got married before it was granted. So I contacted the Home Affairs department (Department of Immigration at the time) to change my visa application to Partner Visa (Subclass 309). This is was done fairly fast but the process after was exhausting and frustrating. When I got my provisional visa I was able to find a formal job and work legally.
